Boston Grants

Our grantmaking in Greater Boston focuses on organizations that help teens and young adults get re-connected to a supportive community and become independent adults. Typical grants range from $2,500 to $25,000, with occasional larger and multi-year commitments. Examples include:

Boston Arts Academy Foundation — Boston Arts Academy is the city’s only public high school for the visual and performing arts. The Foundation bridges the funding gap between Boston Public Schools’ allocation and the true cost of providing a conservatory-quality education. Our grants support the school’s Health and Wellness Program which offers individual and group counseling, family education and support, case management, crisis assessments, health assessments, and referrals to external providers, all at no cost to students or their caregivers.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters – Bridge Over Troubled Waters’ proven and innovative services are delivered through an effective continuum of care model, welcoming all youth “where they are at” and guiding them to self-sufficient and stable adulthood. Each year, Bridge’s programs provide 2,000 youth, ages 14-24, with essential help, ranging from short-term, survival aid services with street outreach, mobile medical van, in-house medical clinic, drop-in hours for laundry, showers, and food to long-term, life-skill building residential programs that recognizes past trauma and prepares youth to succeed. At all points along the continuum, youth have access to ongoing counseling, educational opportunities, and career services at Bridge’s easily accessible downtown location.

Fenway Health — the Borum Health Center provides behavioral health services to young LGBTQ adults ages 12–29 who need a health center that really understands them

The Home For Little WanderersOut at Home provides therapeutic support in the home and other convenient settings to LGBTQ youth and families. The program is operated in coordination with Waltham House, the group home for LGBTQ youth that is operated by The Home for Little Wanderers.

Justice Resource Institute — the YouthHarbors program partners with public high schools to provide on-site support students facing homelessness or housing insecurity. The program ensures students do not have to choose between their education and housing by offering students wrap-around case management, homelessness prevention and housing stabilization services, and support with the development of life skills for self-sufficiency.

RAW Art Works — RAW’s clinical art therapists and professional artists build meaningful relationships with kids in Lynn, helping them see a broader palette of life choices

Roca— Roca is an internationally recognized organization moving the needle on urban violence by working relentlessly with young people at the center of the violence. Roca’s model is an intensive four-year program to address trauma, teach life-saving cognitive-behavioral skills, and break the cycle of incarceration and poverty that traditional youth programs alone can’t break. And because it takes all of us, Roca helps institutions like police, probation and parole change the way they work with young people who are traumatized and full of fear.

Samaritans — Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people, ages 10-24. Samaritans provides nonjudgmental support for teens and young adults with a 24/7 Helpline, available for both call and text. They also provide free school-based suicide prevention workshops to help students understand their emotions. These workshops provide the necessary tools and resources to respond to someone in crisis.
